GAMA was invited by the American Booksellers Association (ABA) to moderate a panel presentation on how independent booksellers could add games to their stores during its recent annual Winter Institute in Baltimore, MD. Executive Director John Stacy moderated the panel consisting of GAMA retail members Todd Dickinson with Aaron's Books, Milton Griepp, of ICv2, and UK bookseller David Prescott with Blackwells. The panel was well-received with nearly 100 attendees.
In addition, GAMA coordinated a Board Game Room to provide an opportunity for conference attendees to demo games, learn how to open accounts with publishers, and how to stock games in their stores. Publishers who participated in this inaugural partnership with ABA included Atlas Games, GIGAMIC, Hush Hush Projects/Fog of Love, IELLO, Looney Labs, R&R Games, Smirk and Dagger Games, Storymatic, USAopoly, Van Ryder Games, and WizKids. A big thanks to these publishers for making this program a success!
I wish I'd known about this presentation as what I've created includes an audio drama, its adapted graphic novel, a card game, and now, a board game inspired by the story where the 13 major characters have migrated into the board game; all based in classic literature... as well as a 300+ page S.T.E.A.M. based curriculum educators' guide. All components can be used as tools that support literacy. More info at www.a-strange-journey.com
